How does ChapStick® lip balm work to prevent chapped lips?
The product forms a barrier to prevent moisture loss and to protect lips from the drying effects of cold weather and wind, which may cause chapping. It also softens the skin to restore suppleness to the lips.

ChapStick® products without an expiration date do not expire. Also, for the freshest ChapStick®, we recommend that you use it within one year after opening and store it at 20-25°C (68-77°F).

How is ChapStick® lip balm made?
The process of manufacturing ChapStick® is similar to following a recipe. A big blender mixes the heated ingredients of ChapStick®. The color and flavor are added, and then the warm mixture is poured into containers. Most of the process is mechanical.
Does ChapStick® contain parabens?
As of July of 2018, ChapStick® is transitioning our lip balm products to be free of parabens. If you are looking for a paraben free product, feel free to give us a call at 1-877-227-3421 so we can direct you to a specific flavor or store.
Do ChapStick® lip balm products contain a sunscreen?
Yes. Chapstick Moisturizer Original, Chapstick Active 2-in-1, Chapstick Total Hydration, and Chapstick Cool Mint and Black Cherry flavors have an SPF of 15.
Will ChapStick® lip balms with SPF leave a white cast?
Products like Active 2-in-1 contain a mineral based sunscreen may leave a white cast due to zinc oxide which serves as a physical barrier to help protect from UVA/UVB rays.
Do Chapstick lip balms protect against UVA and UVB rays?
Our ChapStick Active 2-in-1 protects from both UVA/UVB rays.
What's the difference between mineral and chemical sunscreen?
Chemical sunscreen provides sun protection by absorbing the UV rays. Mineral sunscreen sits on top of the skin and reflects the sun's rays.
Can I use an HSA or FSA to buy ChapStick® products?
You can use your HSA and FSA tax-preferred savings account to purchase OTC products including ChapStick®.* The passage of the CARES Act by Congress includes provisions to restore OTC eligibility under tax-preferred HSA and FSA accounts. Your plan details may vary, so save your receipt and check with your benefits or health provider for eligibility.
